Food Donations Will Earn Free Entry Into the WFC Food Fest

The 3rd Annual World Food Championships (WFC) will once again organize a massive food drive to help the hungry and homeless in Downtown Las Vegas. But this year, the organizers of WFC are challenging and rewarding Vegas residents to join in the effort.

On Saturday, Nov. 15, anyone who wants to see the World Chef Challenge, stage demos, food challenges or simply enjoy tasty samples in the Downtown Las Vegas Event Center simply have to bring two canned food items, which will earn them free entry into the WFC festivities that day. (General admission is $5 per person.)

All canned items collected, in addition to items collected from competing teams, will be donated to Three Square™, which provides food assistance to residents of Lincoln, Nye, Esmeralda and Clark Counties.

“Hunger is a prevalent and persistent problem in our nation,” said Mike McCloud, president of the World Food Championships. “While our mission is to celebrate the art and sport of food, we also feel like we have a huge responsibility to fight hunger, and we hope that the Las Vegas community will help us take on this challenge.”

In addition to collecting canned goods from attendees, competitors in the World Barbecue Championship will be cooking racks of ribs, provided by the Kansas City Barbeque Society as part of its 100KCBS Meals Mission, which will then be donated to Three Square. The World Food Championships will have a donation hub available throughout the week and is encouraging competitors in all categories to donate any unused food items.

In 2013, the World Food Championships donated nearly 7,000 pounds of food product to Three Square. For more information on Three Square, visit: http://www.threesquare.org/
