Chef Demos, Free Food, Fun Games

Category Competitions
The official categories of competition include barbecue, chili, burger, sandwich, pasta, dessert and bacon. Each of the category competitions will take place at the Fremont Street Experience or at the Fremont East Entertainment District.  More than 300 competitors will compete in a four-day live event cook off for their share of the event’s $300,000 prize purse.  The category competitions are open to the public and free to attend.

Food Fight on Fremont Street
In 2013, as a celebration of Las Vegas’ heritage of unbelievable prize fights, the World Food Championships presents the Food Fight on Fremont Street.  The Food Fight will connect former world-class professional athletes with the high stakes, high pressure world of competition culinary. NFL Hall of Famer Earl Campbell will face off against 3-time Super Bowl winner Bill Bates in a live event “winner taste all” cook off.  The competition is open to the public and free to attend.

Chef’s Challenge
The 2013 Chef Challenge is a skills and cooking technique competition and exhibition featuring 20 competing chefs who will square-off in three rounds of challenges that assess each chef’s hand skills, prep skills, cooking acumen and overall creativity.  Eight chefs are representing host casinos on Fremont Street, eight chefs were chosen from Las Vegas restaurants as part of a special promotion and four chefs are special invitees.

Ultimate Bacon Experience
Bacon fans will be sizzling on Saturday when we bring the Ultimate Bacon Experience, Las Vegas’ first-ever Bacon Fest, to the World Food Championships. Chefs from the Las Vegas campus of Le Cordon Bleu will recreate tastes of recipes created and used by Bacon World Championship competitors.

Certified BBQ Judging
During this four hour class, attendees will become well versed in what championship BBQ should look, smell and (especially) taste like. Attendees will sample competition Brisket, Chicken, Pork and Ribs and, upon successful completion of the class, will become a certified BBQ judge (CBJ).  As a CBJ, attendees will have a year-long membership to the Kansas City Barbeque Society and the ability to judge at hundreds of BBQ competitions that take place across the U.S. and internationally each year.

On-Stage Demonstrations
From industry-acclaimed chef Ben Ford and championship home cook Ally Phillips delivering Dole’s daily Delicious Moment, to 2012 World Chef Champion Travis Brust demonstrating fun and tasty ways to cook with Bison, These on stage demonstrations will entertain attendees and give them tips and tricks on how to replicate in their own kitchens at home.

Reser’s America’s Best Potato Salad Challenge
Throughout 2013, Reser's(R) Fine Foods, and its second annual "America's Best Potato Salad Challenge," gave competition teams and amateur home cooks across the nation the opportunity to prove that their spuds rule in a two-tiered competition of tasteful proportions. 15 competitors will do their best to win over the panel of seven celebrity chefs and critics, but only one will be left standing as champion.

U.S. Foods America’s Next Top Product
In a search to find the best new recipe in America, US Foods, one of the country’s most innovative food companies and leading distributors, launched its second annual Next Top Product Contest. Focused on uncovering the best bakery, hot appetizer or sauce recipe, Next Top Product gave US Foods customers the opportunity to submit their recipe for a chance to have it made into a US Foods commercial product that will be available across the country. Eight finalists will face off in the championship event looking to earn a cash prize, bragging rights and acclaim.
